    I think it is important for quilters to remember to let the machine do the sewing and not to push your fabric through. With a good machine you should be able to simply guide your fabric and the machine will feed it through perfectly with the walking foot. I have used it for years and absolutely love it. I could not do intricate sewing without it. I’m enjoying your video.

    This is so great! I've used flannel as my batting and/or backing for years now, but I haven't really thought about finding thicker fabric per se. Also, I've never made a rag quilt, so thank you for all the helpfulness, especially the offset part, lol! BTW, have you ever considered a 5lb hand weight to hold down your long rulers? It's an incredibly helpful tool, takes all the slippage away. Have a happy day! Abigail, in the middle of beautiful New Hampshire 💙💙💙

    I finished my first rag quilt and it was fun to make. I also make a few mistakes I had to unpick and re-sew mostly because it's so ingrained in me to sew right side to right side but in a rag quilt you basically sew backside to backside or... "wrong" side to "wrong" side. Even though it was my first rag quilt it came out so great! I did it with the "traditional cotton fabric front, batting and flannel on the back but might try the 3 layers of flannel since flannel is on sale at Joann's lol The baby quilts are so cute.

      This was made with 2.5 x 4.5-inch rectangles, Sandra. They finish at 2x4-inches. There are quite a few different videos I've done using this method in larger squares. You can use any size as long as the length is twice as long as the width before you add the seam allowance. You can really do a lot with this block. I hope you get to give it a try! Please explain to me why this is called a potato chip block?

    • @InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
      @InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise 3 дня назад

      Great question, Sandra! This pattern goes way back and has been used for years under various names. I first saw it published as 'Scrappy Rectangles' and loved it. If you'll notice, it's actually a variation of the Courthouse Steps Log Cabin Block. The difference is that short strips are sewn together to create the longer pieces. The new Potato Chip Block name was given a couple years a go by Brenda of Mount Scrapmore. The idea being that 'You can't make just one'. That was a huge advertising tag line years ago so lots of people recognize it and the name stuck. It's a fun and easy block and incredibly versatile especially with how you place your colors. That's the story and it's been incredibly popular. I know I love making it! Thanks for following along. Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

      @InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise 3 дня назад

      So glad it helped! The 30/60-degree angles can sometimes take me a minute to get correct. It's not a bad idea to draw your first couple lines in each direction so you can be sure it's what you want. I've come up with some very unusual shapes before! 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks so much for following along! • @InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
      @InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise 4 дня назад

      Great question! As long as you're using flannel as your middle layer there shouldn't be a problem sewing it either way. The corner to corner method is necessary when batting is used in the middle. Sewing corner to corner secures it really well. With flannel in the middle the seams are already holding it place. The additional 'quilting' just holds all the layers together for a nicer, smooth look. Thanks so much for following along! Happy Quilting, Lea Louise
